The Cigar Sportsman

Greetings fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Leaf,

My name is Greg Perry, one of the founding members of the Loomis Cigar Cartel.  I am a sportsman, hunter, fisherman, and fellow Brother of the Leaf.  I have been smoking cigars for just shy of 10 years now. I have been fishing all my life and can be accused of adult onset hunting.  I hope as we all embark on this journey that you enjoy my insights (such as they are), experiences, and stories about the adventures.

As you have heard on our opening podcast and “The Cartel” page, we started as a group of friends who are cigar enthusiasts.  We quickly found out that we had something more to bring to the table.  None of us ever claims to be subject matter exerts, but we do have opinions to share.  Yet, have you ever met a cigar smoker who didn’t?

What is it that makes the cigar so special?  That is an interesting question. I suppose that it is the anticipation of the taste and aroma.  There is the simplicity of the cut, the gentle touch of the flame to the foot of the cigar, the warm rich aroma of the toast, and finally the first puff.  You begin to experience time slow, your stress level subside, and the heart rate slow.  You then spend a relaxing portion of time, with total enjoyment.

The outdoors are very much the same as a good cigar.  You have the same anticipation, relaxation, and simplicity of your actions – be they deliberate or folly. It relaxes you to be on the water, in the field, or in the woods.  Let’s combine the way you and I enjoy the outdoors, the hunt, fishing, and a good cigar to maximize our relaxation.

Let’s explore the outdoors with a good cigar and a fine spirit and camaraderie.
