Traveling with Cigars: A Journey of Flavor, Safety, Fun and Enjoyment!
Throughout time you're always traveling, and I would like to talk about traveling with cigars. A few years ago, a very good friend of mine and I did a lot of traveling between California and Idaho where we had to transport personal belongings and spent many hours on the road. Throughout our travels we enjoyed fine cigars and there were many trips that I had to travel by myself where I still enjoyed my cigars.
When traveling with cigars the first thing you have to remember is to "always drive the car".
By yourself or with a friend planning on what you want to smoke is very important. We always planned the route, tried to estimate the distance between points and planned our smokes accordingly. Section of the trip was only an hour, others could be two or three hours so knowing your cigars and how they burn is important when you're traveling with cigars.
When traveling with cigars with a friend it is fairly easy for your passenger to cut and light your cigar for you and do any touch ups that are necessary while the trip is progressing, but by yourself more care and prior thought on your trip is important.
I would judge the distances and figure what cigar am I going to smoke between the points and have the Cigar already cut and held in an airtight container with a Boveda pack or humidification of your choice for the trip. After starting the trip I would carefully take out the cigar and while minding my driving I would toast it and start smoking. A suitable container for your ash is important for most of the time when you're ashing it will kind of be like muscle retention knowing exactly where that ashtray is gonna be when you tap off the ash. Long distances of an hour and a half or more might take more than one cigar so be prepared in your travels.
But traveling with a friend is quite nice, your passenger can light your cigar make sure that you're getting the ash and the ashtray of your choice and do relights and touch up as necessary and not affect your driving. When things get down to the nub driving by yourself you would be prudent just to not nub it but let it go out but with a friend, he can set you up with a pic make sure it stays lit and take care of any problems that may arise throughout the trip.
There were times when traveling by myself it was not uncommon to set up my phone where I can make a phone call with a friend who would also be smoking a cigar at their home and enjoy the pleasure of smoking a fine cigar and good conversation which in most cases would make the trip going to your destination much quicker.
I have found that most people that I know that do smoke in their vehicles to help alleviate the smell of cigar smoke after exiting the vehicle would spray a little Ozone Into the compartment to help alleviate the smell of cigars.
I regularly smoke in my vehicle and this action inabled my passengers that do not smoke at all when they're riding with me to not even know that less an hour prior I had finished up a fine cigar.
So in closing when planning for a trip that you are going to smoke while driving make sure you have all the tools that you need IE a cutter, a lighter, an ashtray In an airtight container which is easily accessible for your cigars to go with you.
But again the most important thing to remember when smoking a cigar is the safety of driving your vehicle comes first. If you have trouble with your cigar find and exit pull over take care of the problem then go about your day.
So in traveling and smoking may I say drive safe and good smoke.
